Hen

She will definitely not tolerate anything anymore where she was born. So she sets out into the world. But life outside is not easy. After a few wild adventures, she finally finds what others of her kind only dream of. Love and a new home. However, she has no idea that a smuggler's den is hatching right next to her freshly laid eggs... Hungarian provocateur György Pálfi (Taxidermia, Final Cut) tells a tragicomic parable about freedom, the fight against the system and the desire for motherhood through the eyes of a feathered heroine.
The film’s atmosphere is heightened by Erik Mischijew’s sound design and, above all, the folk music of Szabolcs Szöke, a virtuoso on the gadulka, a traditional Bulgarian stringed instrument.
The original darkly humorous drama with an unexpected star received an Honorable Mention at the Toronto Film Festival.

What does a “better life” actually mean for farm animals? And where does the ideal end and the reality of production begin? These questions frame a post-screening discussion following a film about a hen trying to escape a system where her role is predetermined.
The debate will focus on real-world practice—the relationship between animal welfare and production, the limits of current farming systems, and the possibilities for change. No simplifications, no moralizing—just a grounded, fact-based discussion.
Guests include Mikuláš Michael Kálnoky, an expert in poultry welfare and applied ethology, and Petr David, an organic farmer and bio producer. The discussion will be moderated by Jan Bedřich.
The event brings together different perspectives on a topic that concerns us all more than we might think.
